Noor Talks Explores Creativity, Collaboration, and Cultural Impact
As part of the community engagement activities accompanying Noor Riyadh 2024, held under the theme Light Years Apart, a series of Noor Talks took place at JAX District on November 29 and 30, aimed at exploring the dimensions of art and culture from a multifaceted perspective.
The sessions brought together artists, curators, cultural leaders, and creative professionals to engage in dynamic discussions exploring the festival’s curatorial vision, the future of public art, the role of collaboration in fostering Gulf creativity, and the evolving significance of cultural institutions.
Illuminating the artistic vision
The opening evening of Noor Talks set the stage for an exploration of the creative and curatorial journey behind Noor Riyadh 2024.
Curators in Conversation, moderated by Gaida Al Mogren, featured Dr. Effat Abdullah Fadag and Dr. Alfredo Cramerotti, the festival’s co-curators. They offered an intimate perspective on how the theme Light Years Apart draws from the profound relationship between the earth (Althara) and the stars (Althuraya). They shared how this cosmic connection inspires both the symbolic and practical dimensions of the festival, inviting reflection on humanity’s pursuit of transcendent goals.
The curators delved into the collaborative process of commissioning artworks, highlighting the dynamic exchange of ideas that unfolded between curators and artists. This mutual engagement not only enriched the creative process but also allowed the artworks to evolve organically, embodying the diversity of artistic voices and interpretations that define the festival.
They further emphasized the deeply rewarding relationships they developed with the participating artists, describing the process as one of shared learning and growth. This collaboration ensured the artworks were not only aligned with the festival’s theme but also resonated with unique perspectives, blending individual creativity with the overarching vision.
Audiences came away with a deeper appreciation for the intricate interplay of creativity, technical expertise, and teamwork that makes Noor Riyadh a transformative cultural event.
