vivo’s Sustainable Innovation Spotlighted at Boao Forum for Asia Event
As global leaders convened at the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) event themed “Energy Transformation and Sustainable Future,” vivo took center stage, showcasing its dedication to sustainability in the technology sector.
The BFA is an important platform that fosters dialogue among leaders from government, business, and academia. The event aimed to promote international exchange and cooperation in technological innovation, address global energy challenges, and promote a green and sustainable development model. As a strategic partner of the BFA Annual Conference 2024, vivo highlighted the pivotal role of technology in fostering energy transition and environmental sustainability.

Simon Hu, General Manager of vivo KSA, emphasized the imperative for tech companies to innovate sustainably: “Tech companies must focus on sustainability, continuously innovating to meet users’ evolving needs. Importantly, our innovations should address social issues and contribute to sustainable development. The mission of tech companies extends beyond products – we should leverage scientific progress to create solutions that benefit everyone, making technology a driving force for a happier, more sustainable future.”
In line with its commitment to sustainability, vivo released its 2022 Sustainability Report, focusing on technology sharing, green symbiosis, value creation, and community responsibility. Notably, vivo has significantly reduced resource consumption, particularly in product packaging. For example, the weight of the gray cardboard in most of the phone boxes has been reduced from 1,000 grams to 800 grams. This is particularly noticeable with vivo V27, where each box is approximately 24 grams lighter – a change that saves 24 tons of paper for every million phones produced.
Moreover, vivo prioritizes energy-efficient product designs, utilizing advanced chips, high-quality lenses, and innovative screen technologies such as LTPO in vivo phones for enhanced performance. The company also focuses on extending product lifespan to reduce the need for frequent replacement. Additionally, vivo operates in a green and low-carbon manner, using solar power and water resource management to reduce energy consumption and pollution. In 2022, vivo has achieved a high standard of 100% for safe waste recycling, and wastewater and exhaust gas discharge rate. These initiatives reflect vivo’s deep understanding and implementation of green development concepts and demonstrate its steady progress towards a sustainable future.
