Riyadh Marathon 2022 set to officially kick off on March 5th
The Saudi Sports for All Federation (SFA) gears up to host the first internationally acclaimed marathon in Saudi Arabia. The Riyadh Marathon will be held on Saturday, 5 March with sports enthusiasts and runners from around the have signed up for the historic race, with a total prize pool of 2 million Saudi Riyals.
The exhilarating 42.2-kilometer full marathon will kick off at King Saud University at 06:15 am. Runners will pass through Riyadh landmarks such as the historic Diriyah, Digital City, King Saud University, and many of the capitals’ main roads, while also testing their strength, speed, and stamina.
Accredited by the International and Asian Athletic Federations, the Riyadh Marathon is an inclusive event with four races on offer for all ages and abilities. Participants can register for the four kilometer fun run (open to all ages), 10 kilometer race (open to participants aged 17 and older), and the half marathon 21.1 kilometer race (for ages 18 and older) on the official Riyadh Marathon website.
To celebrate Saudi Arabia’s first full-fledged marathon and SFA’s biggest event to date, the SFA is also hosting a Marathon Village from 4–5 March where participants can collect their race bibs and visitors can enjoy a range of fun activities, food, music, fitness classes, and more over the two days. The Riyadh Marathon Village will be open from 9am -9pm on Friday and from 5:30am-3pm on Saturday.
The Riyadh Marathon 2022 has been organized by the SFA with the support of the Ministry of Sport, the Quality of Life Program, the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee, King Saud University, the Saudi Arabian Athletic Federation, presenting partner SABIC, main sponsor Roshn, the official timekeeper Huawei, and more supporting partners. It follows the success of the Riyadh Half Marathon in 2018.
The SFA is the principal body responsible for developing community sports in the Kingdom. The Federation seeks to build a healthy and vibrant community by inspiring all members of society to be physically active, in line with the Quality of Life Program goal of boosting the percentage of people in the Kingdom who regularly exercise to 40% by 2030.
