40% increase in AI Models deployed at KFSHRC in one year resulting in 81% reduction in bed waiting times

King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSHRC) continues to lead the transformation of AI-powered healthcare. In 2024, 22 AI models were deployed, up from 16 in 2023. This expansion enhances patient care and optimizes operations.
This surge in AI adoption is transforming healthcare delivery, allowing KFSHRC to manage patient inflows more efficiently, reduce wait times, and enhance diagnostic accuracy. The hospital’s AI-powered Capacity Command Centre recorded 170,000 interventions. Average bed waiting times dropped by 81.25%, from 32 to just 6 hours. Additionally, AI-driven operational workflows have cut emergency department wait times by 14%, ensuring that critical patients receive faster care, and 90% of pharmacy and laboratory services are now delivered within 15 minutes.
KFSHRC’s AI-enhanced medical imaging systems have significantly improved diagnostic accuracy by 25% while reducing misdiagnosis rates by 18%, particularly in the early detection of cancers and cardiovascular diseases. The hospital’s advancements in AI-driven genomics and precision medicine have facilitated the sequencing of 2,217 whole genomes, allowing for targeted and personalized treatment plans tailored to individual patients. The hospital has also introduced AI-powered early cancer detection. This includes the deployment of “Mirai” – an AI tool developed in collaboration with MIT’s Jameel Clinic, capable of predicting breast cancer up to five years in advance.
AI is also revolutionising robotic surgery and organ transplantation. KFSHRC has completed 1,370 robotic-assisted procedures, including the world’s first fully robotic heart and liver transplants.
It is noteworthy that KFSHRC has been ranked first in the Middle East and Africa and 15th globally in the list of the world’s top 250 Academic Medical Centres for the third consecutive year and has been recognised as the most valuable healthcare brand in the Kingdom and the Middle East, according to the 2025 Brand Finance rankings. Additionally, it was included in Newsweek magazine’s World’s Best Smart Hospitals list for 2025. For more information, visit www.kfshrc.edu.sa or contact our media team at mediacoverage@kfshrc.edu.sa.
