 Arthur D. Little (ADL) has published \u201cThe\nMetaverse: What\u2019s In It For Telcos?<\/a>\u201d exploring how telcos can capture\nvalue by leveraging the metaverse. Metaverse represents a major new market for\ntelcos with early estimates of the overall size of the Metaverse opportunity to\nbe around $13 trillion by 2030. For example, Ericsson estimates the opportunity\npresented by 5G fixed wireless access at $5 billion in 2022, growing to $21\nbillion in 2025 and $53 billion by 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three\nrelated forces drive the imperative for telcos to be proactive in their\nMetaverse strategies and tactics. First, the demand is likely to be too large\nto ignore. Second, the risk of failure or non-participation could be\nexistential: hyperscalers such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure\nwill be close on the heels of those telco players that fail to guarantee the\ninfrastructure the Metaverse necessitates. Third, consumer behavior,\nparticularly from Gen Z, shows that demand for Metaverse products is already\nwell into the mainstream. For example, according to a recent study by Obsess,\n75% of Gen Z virtual shoppers have already purchased a digital product\nwithin a video game. To connect with this generation of consumers, telcos must\ninvest in Metaverse offerings and capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Given these\nthree factors, telcos should explore how they can benefit from the Metaverse\u2019s\nrise, both with infrastructure and through direct participation. By engaging\neffectively with this new market, benefits for telcos include growth from\nincreased revenues and retention and new efficiency gains along multiple axes,\nincluding carbon usage and workforce outsourcing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thomas\nKuruvilla, Managing Partner, Arthur D. Little, Middle East, said: \u201c<\/strong>The expected\nacceleration in Metaverse prospects is driven by a real convergence of multiple\nfactors: internet connectivity, technology\nrelated to sensors to collect data, digitalization and AI \u2014 and the value of a\nreliable communication is obvious. As highlighted in the report, the Metaverse\nwill add tremendous value to all and this should allow telcos to share a part\nof the benefit, as increased revenue which can be spend on network\ninfrastructure and addressing the challenge of ultra-low-latency requirements.\nA good connectivity will enable Healthcare and Education providers to deliver\nservices to disadvantaged and remote communities \u2013 and at an overall lower cost\n\u2013 democratizing access and care for citizens worldwide. Going forward, the %\nincrease in adoption of digital services\/Metaverse will be higher with the\nlower income population ADL estimates the total addressable market will grow at\na 33% CAGR from 2022\u20132025 (excluding infrastructure and enabling technologies).\u201d\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  5. Privacy & trust infrastructure to tame the regulatory \u201cWild West\u201d<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
