{"id":57004,"date":"2022-09-15T10:14:42","date_gmt":"2022-09-15T07:14:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.indexeconomic.com\/?p=57004"},"modified":"2022-09-15T10:14:44","modified_gmt":"2022-09-15T07:14:44","slug":"acwa-power-announces-chinas-silk-road-fund-as-co-investor-in-us1-billion-1-5-gw-sirdarya-project-in-uzbekistan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/indexeconomic.com\/?p=57004","title":{"rendered":"ACWA Power announces China\u2019s Silk Road Fund as co-investor in US$1 billion 1.5 GW Sirdarya project in Uzbekistan"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong><em>ACWA Power\nowns 51% of the<\/em><\/strong><strong>1.5 GW Sirdarya combined cycle gas\nturbine (CCGT) facility<em>, with Silk Road Fund obtaining a 49% stake <\/em><\/strong><\/li><li><strong><em>Share\npurchase agreement first of its kind between parties in Uzbekistan and Central\nAsia <\/em><\/strong><\/li><li><strong><em>Once\noperational in 2024, Sirdarya facility will be responsible for 15% of power demand\nand 8% of installed power capacity in Uzbekistan<\/em><\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Riyadh, KSA;\n14 September 2022: <\/strong>ACWA Power, a leading Saudi\ndeveloper, investor, and operator of power generation, water desalination and\ngreen hydrogen plants worldwide, and China\u2019s Silk Road Fund signed a share\npurchase agreement for the 1.5 GW Sirdarya combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT)\nfacility in Uzbekistan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">The\npartnership was formalised in a virtual signing ceremony attended by Mohammad\nAbunayyan, ACWA Power Chairman and ZHU Jun, Chairwoman of Silk Road Fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">By the terms\nof the agreement, ACWA Power will continue to be the majority\nshareholder in the project, holding 51% stake in the facility. The Silk Road\nFund, which is China\u2019s sovereign investment body that implements the Belt and\nRoad Initiative, will now own 49% of the\nSirdarya facility. The share purchase agreement is expected to close by Q4\n2022. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Uzbekistan\u2019s\nJSC National Grid will function as the sole off taker of the project for a\nperiod of 25 years. Once completed\nin early 2024, the project accounts for 8% of the country\u2019s total power\ncapacity and meet 15% of the country\u2019s electricity demand across industry and\nhouseholds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs ACWA\nPower continues to expand globally, our mission to provide reliable, responsible,\nand affordable power and water cannot be achieved alone. On top of such, ACWA Power has three additional\nprojects in Uzbekistan, chiefly in wind energy, whereas Silk Road Fund has invested\nin the Republic\u2019s culture, tourism,\noil and gas sectors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe\nSirdarya project symbolizes the cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative\namong China, Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan.
