Lexus International has recently\nannounced a call for entries for its distinguished Lexus Design Award 2023, an\ninternational design competition dedicated to empowering and encouraging the\nnext generation of creators. Inaugurated in 2013, the award has given\nup-and-coming talents and innovators a global platform for exposure, discovery,\nand launch of countless impressive careers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As the award continues to evolve, Lexus is\naiming to enrich its platform for next-generation design talents by more\nbroadly focusing on the creative growth of the individual. To achieve this\ngoal, it embraces a new, streamlined form where four winners are now chosen to\nallow us to dive deeper into each winner’s story, while also fostering rich\ndialogue amongst them and the industry luminaries who serve as members of the\njury. Mentorship remains core to the award, with winners being mentored by\nleading lights of the design world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lexus is seeking innovative ideas\nthat contribute to a thriving and prosperous future for all through the power\nof design and technology. Applicants will explain how their creative concept\nputs into practice the Lexus brand’s three key principles: Anticipate, Innovate\nand Captivate. The design must anticipate global challenges to societies,\nenvision inventive ways to reach a sustainable future, and seamlessly enhance\nthe happiness of all. Lexus seeks engaging, insightful, and original designs\nthat honor both form and function while offering actionable solutions to hasten\nthe arrival of a brighter future for humanity in a variety of scenarios and\nsituations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kei Fujita, Chief Representative,\nMiddle East and Central Asia Representative \u200eOffice, Toyota Motor Corporation,\nsaid: \u201cWe are extremely excited to launch the eleventh edition of the Lexus\nDesign Award. We aim, through this international competition which is being\nheld this year under the theme \u2018Design for a Better Tomorrow,\u2019 to support the\nnext generation of designers and creators. The Lexus Design Award offers them a\nplatform to explore their creativity, develop their unique design concepts\nthrough expert guidance and mentorship, and showcase their innovations to the\nworld.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fujita added: \u201cWe look forward to\nrevealing this year\u2019s winners and seeing what they will present. I want to\nthank everyone involved in the Lexus Design Award for contributing to this\nvaluable platform, as well as our loyal customers, whose continuous support\ninspires us all to reach beyond the conventional and create amazing\nexperiences.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A judging committee of elite,\ninternationally recognized design experts will select four winners from among\nthe entries based on the judging criteria. Winners will be mentored by leading\ncreators in diverse design disciplines. Each winner will be allocated a\nresearch and development budget of up to JPY 3 million (over USD 22,500), as a\ndesign grant to cover not only prototype construction but also other relevant\nexpenses involved in refining their concept and design and supporting the\nindividual’s creative development. This once-in-a-lifetime mentoring experience\nis at the heart of the Lexus Design Award’s reputation for excellence. In the\nspring of 2023, the four winners will reveal their progress to judges and\nmentors by presenting their finished work for review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After revealing their work, the\naward winners will have the priceless opportunity to consult one-on-one with\nthe judging panel. In addition to receiving feedback on their work, the winners\nwill get to share their visions and receive guidance on the career paths and\naspirational goals that would best further their future creative success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
