Monitored on Twitter in Saudi Arabia, and analysed by cultural and data experts over a two-year period, the following trends are a reflection of what\u2019s happening in Saudi Arabia, what people are actually talking about, and echo the national sentiment:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Identity in Transit: What does it\nmean to be Saudi?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" dir=\"ltr\">Across\nSaudi Arabia, people\u2019s sense of self is being defined by societal changes, and\ntheir responses are defining that change. Whether it&#8217;s conversations about\nwomen working, driving, general economic progress, or embracing smart cities,\nthis is showing up as pride in place, openness to new experiences, more gender\nbalance in relationships, a desire to be recognized, and a melding of identity\nand personal aspirations. Incredible growth is seen in conversations around\npride in relation to smart cities and NEOM (+172%), alongside chasing the Saudi\ndream (+161%), with topics such as Youth Innovation, Dual Income, Family\nPlanning and Size, and Quality of Life predicted to grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" dir=\"ltr\">For\nbrands and marketers this nods to opportunities emerging at the heart of\nculture-shaping conversations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Celebrating the Saudi dream: <\/strong>The idea that Saudi is finally taking its rightful place on the world stage is core to people\u2019s sense of self and tied to the desire to do the same on a personal level. With pride in place at a high, helping consumers celebrate this sentiment is a strong value connection. <\/li><li><strong>Being an agent of self-improvement: <\/strong>The desire for success and aligning a brand with this value is a win-win. Twitter tracked a\n+49% year-on-year growth in conversation related to offers, competitions, and\ndiscounts recorded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" dir=\"ltr\">We\u2019re\nalso witnessing a +36% year-on-year increase in conversation around the digital\neconomy and a +595% year-on-year increase in conversation around\ncryptocurrencies. Whether it\u2019s cryptocurrencies, online retailers, digital\nbanks, or smart cities, people are feeling empowered as conversations around\ndigital marketing, content creation, Saudi digitalization, innovation, remote\nworking and entrepreneurship are predicted to grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For\nbrands and marketers, Finance Goes Social is a big shift of behaviours applying\nacross categories with insights showcasing the opportunities to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Being the financially smart\nchoice: <\/strong>People\naren\u2019t necessarily looking for the cheapest option, but the best price for the\noption they want. Being consistently fair-minded in terms of providing value\nwill gain loyalty and a following.<\/li><li><strong>Recognizing customers&#8217;\nachievements and aspirations: <\/strong>There\u2019s a desire to be a personal success story that\nemulates the nation\u2019s success story. Make crypto accessible by\nintegrating it into your business.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Eco-innovation: Sustainability\nmeets tech<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" dir=\"ltr\">Saudis\nare interested in environmental issues when aligned with national identity,\nsuch as smart cities, smart cars, large rail constructions, and alternative\nenergy projects. Personal impact, on the other hand, is still in its infancy.\nThere is enthusiasm and support for the government\u2019s projects relating to\nsustainability, as well as a rediscovery of Saudi Arabia\u2019s natural assets, with\na +191% year-on-year increase in mentions of NEOM and The Line Project and\n+153% year-on-year increase in mentions of Vision 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" dir=\"ltr\">However,\npeople aren\u2019t just talking about sustainability in regards to environmental\nprotection or climate change \u2013 it\u2019s driving real excitement about the future of\nSaudi as a nation as well as individual advancement and opportunity. The trend\nis corroborated by a year-on-year increase in conversation around tech (+49%),\nelectric cars (+55%) and smart cities (+180%).
