The risks from \u201cdooring\u201d are in focus this week\nwith World Bicycle Day being celebrated on Friday, 3 June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDooring\u201d is a common hazard, where a vehicle driver or\npassenger opens a door into the path of a cyclist approaching from\nbehind.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Lexus has helped address the issue with a world-first\ntechnology that can prevent a door from being opened if there is the risk of an\naccident. Its Safe Exit Assist technology combines the new e-latch electronic\ndoor release system with Blind Spot Monitor sensors mounted on the rear of the\nvehicle. These will detect a cyclist or other road user, alert the driver or\npassengers with warning lights in the door mirror glass and instrument display,\nand disable the e-latch operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">The technology made its debut on the all-new Lexus NX\nmid-size SUV and will also be featured on the upcoming all-electric RZ and on\nthe all-new, fifth generation RX.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Safe Exit Assist is one element in the wide-ranging safety\nprovisions Lexus is fitting to its cars that safeguard against accidents\ninvolving cyclists \u2013 and other road users and pedestrians \u2013 in its drive\ntowards the ultimate goal of zero road accidents, injuries, and fatalities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">For example, the Lexus Safety System + package, which is\nfitted as standard to all Lexus new models includes a Pre-Collision System that\ncan detect in daylight driving the risk of a collision with a cyclist on the\nroad ahead.
