Expo 2020 Dubai has revealed details of the\neye-grabbing visitor experience at Alif \u2013 The Mobility Pavilion, where visitors\nwill be taken on a voyage through time and space to discover how people, goods,\nideas and data are interacting in ever more complex ways. Bringing the story of\nglobal mobility to life in immersive and inspiring ways, the Mobility Pavilion\nshowcases the pivotal role the UAE and the entire Arab world has, and\ncontinues, to play in advancing human progress, in a journey that encompasses\neverything from ancient exploration to the Emirates Mission to Mars and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nvisitor experience begins 4,500 years ago in Saruq Al Hadid, a settlement in\nthe Dubai desert that had extensive relations with areas of the Gulf, the\nLevant and West Asia, demonstrating the enduring strategic importance of this\nregion. Visitors are then invited aboard the world\u2019s largest elevating\nplatform, which transports them to the House of Wisdom in ninth-century Baghdad. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Next,\nthey will encounter towering nine-metre-tall photo-realistic figures from the\nGolden Age of Arab Civilisation \u2013 including ancient navigator Ibn Majid and\ncelebrated explorer Ibn Battuta \u2013 whose innovations helped drive forward global\nmobility throughout the centuries. The stories of these historical giants are\nused to explore the concept of mobility, its power and far-reaching influence,\nas well as highlighting innovations from the Arab region that have catalysed\nadvances in human exploration and mobility.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nexperience subsequently leaps forward in time to the 21st century, entering a\nvirtual world brimming with data, before moving into the city of future, where\nvisitors will be given a glimpse of where mobility may potentially evolve to in\nthe years and decades to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Inextricably\nlinked to the visitor experience is the story of Dubai, and the role the emirate\nand the UAE have always played in connecting people on a global scale. Visitors\nwill be shown the incredible progress the UAE has enjoyed in the past 50 years,\nespecially in mobility-related fields such as airlines, logistics and smart\ncities, extending into the solar system through the UAE\u2019s space programme and\nthe Hope Mission to Mars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One\nof Expo 2020\u2019s signature attractions, Alif \u2013 The Mobility Pavilion was made\npossible through the work of local and international collaborators. The UAE\nSpace Agency and Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center provided expertise and\ncontent for the space segment. Global experience design agency MET Studio,\ndecorated New Zealand movie and television creatives Weta Workshop and Academy\nAward-winning Los Angeles-based experience company Magnopus have also all\nworked with Expo 2020 to create the pavilion\u2019s inspiring visitor experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\npavilion was designed by award-winning British architectural design and\nengineering firm Foster + Partners. Its ribbed and curved shape was devised to\nevoke movement, with its highly polished stainless-steel cladding inspired by\nchrome fenders and aircraft wings, reflecting movement from the surrounding\nareas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\npavilion and its grounds feature a partly underground, partly open-air\n330-metre track that allows visitors to see cutting-edge mobility devices in\naction, alongside an amphitheatre and second stage, and a plaza around the\nbuilding that will host mobility-related performances, events, symposiums and\ndemonstrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Alif\n\u2013 The Mobility Pavilion is one of three Thematic Pavilions that explore Expo\n2020\u2019s key subthemes \u2013 Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability. Terra \u2013 The\nSustainability Pavilion was revealed to the public in January 2021, while\ndetails of Mission Possible \u2013 the Opportunity Pavilion was revealed earlier\nthis week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One\nof the first global mega-events to take place since the beginning of the\nCOVID-19 pandemic, Expo 2020 runs from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022,\ninviting visitors from around the world to join the making of a new world and\nexperience a six-month journey of human creativity, innovation, progress and\nculture.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
