Businesses in Saudi Arabia are undergoing a major transformation, moving beyond digitisation and towards rethinking how the business itself operates. This is happening across key sectors including government, financial services, healthcare, industrial operations and major infrastructure projects.<\/p>\n

According to Khalid Mannai, Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee at Mannai Corporation, the shift is being driven by several forces such as Vision 2030, regulation and competition. Each providing direction, clarity and urgency contributing to the bigger goal of building long-term national capability. “The strongest driver is the ambition to build long-term national capability,” he said.<\/p>\n

The business comes first<\/strong><\/h2>\n

As the goals change, so does the starting point. Rather than working around the technology and figuring out where it best fits, organisations are beginning with the problems they want to solve first. “The most successful organisations treat transformation as a business programme and begin by defining what decisions,\u00a0outcomes and customer experiences they want to improve. Following which, they align\u00a0technology, governance,\u00a0people\u00a0and data around that\u00a0objective. That discipline consistently produces measurable results and sustainable change.” Mannai shared. “At Mannai Information Technology Saudi Arabia, we spend time identifying the operational bottlenecks, decision points and measurable outcomes that matter most,” he said.<\/p>\n

He also pointed out that those outcomes are shaping how organisations think about technology itself, and how it can best work alongside the business.<\/p>\n

When technology understands the business<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Mohammed Saadeh, Country Leader – Saudi Arabia at IFS shared that generic technology can no longer server every industry and it becomes clear once it reaches the places such as the plant floor, at the wellhead, on the construction site, in the field, where complex work happens.<\/p>\n

\u201cManaging critical assets, field workforces and large-scale projects all come with their own operational demands.\u201d Saadeh said. \u201cAnd with AI entering these spaces, that becomes all the more important. Any system can return an answer. The question is whether it understands the operational context that made that answer the right one. AI is only as good as the context it operates in\u201d<\/p>\n

IFS\u2019 approach brings assets, people, processes and data together so AI can be applied within the realities of asset-intensive, service-centric and project-driven industries.<\/p>\n

Planning beyond today <\/strong><\/h2>\n

Business transformation in AI infrastructure is often framed around technology adoption. For Rabii Al Khonaizi, Regional Sales Director, KSA, North MEA at Submer, it comes down to design and delivery. “How an AI data centre is designed determines how it can be built, and the speed determines whether the design still fits the latest chips when they arrive,” he said.<\/p>\n

An AI data centre is not a general-purpose facility. Its power and cooling are built around the chips inside it, and the chips follow the workload. Training a large model draws heavy power for months, much like years of intensive education. Inference is lighter and faster, spread across smaller sites.<\/p>\n

Timing matters too. “High-end AI processors can take up to 18 months to arrive,” Al Khonaizi said, \u201cso infrastructure planned today has to account for hardware that lands much later.\u201d A conventional facility takes three to four years to build and is often outdated by the time it opens. Submer’s factory-built capacity cuts that down to months. “None of it begins with the facility, it begins with the use case,” he added.<\/p>\n

Building capability that lasts<\/strong><\/h2>\n

These ideas all come back to the same understanding that technology only creates lasting value when it is integrated into the way an organisation actually operates.<\/p>\n

As Saudi Arabia’s digital transformation moves forward, the difference between investing in technology and truly changing a business may come down to where organisations begin. Starting with the problem, identifying what needs to change and then building the right technology around it can turn transformation from a one-off project into an ongoing part of the business.<\/p>\n
